Quick Review
We’re officially in December, and of course there’s a ton of great films being released because it’s the end of the year. Given how superhero movies have underperformed this year, I have made the controversial decision of not including Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on this list. Considering DC’s decision to wipe the slate clean and start afresh, with this Aquaman sequel being the final movie of DCEU, I don’t see how many would be invested to see it in the cinema.
There was more anticipation for The Flash and it was still a box office flop. I just feel there are better options to spend your money on this holiday season.

New Movies of November 2023
1. Silent Night| December 1st 2023
It’s been 6 years since we’ve had a John Woo movie, so this is the greatest gift for all you Woo fans out there. Joel Kinnaman plays Brian Godlock, a man who witnesses his son’s death in a gang crossfire. Despite his wounds, he makes vengeance his life mission, and aims to hunt down all those responsible for his son’s death. The premise is basically John Wick, but will the movie succeed?
Currently, the reviews are fairly mixed. Some critics felt it was exhilarating, while others don’t think the movie lived up to its potential. But still, if you enjoy Woo’s movies and you’re looking for more of an action flick to engage with this December, then this might be the movie for you.
2. Wonka | December 7th, 2023
When Wonka’s first trailer came out, people were ready to write this movie out. Considering Timothée Chalamet’s heartthrob status, fans were shocked to see him fully commit to the whimsy of the role, which many found to be cringeworthy. However, early reactions from critics who have watched the film have proclaimed the film to be a charming, whimsical treat.
Based on the character at the center of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wonka is about how Willy Wonka became the inventor we know in the story. Hugh Grant plays an Oompa Loompa in this, so you know it’s going to be quite the holiday movie treat.
3. Poor Things | December 22nd, 2023
Poor Things in a spin on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Bella Baxter (Emma Stone) is brought back to life by scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe) – that iconic line from Spider-Man seems largely applicable here. Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn about the world she’s a part of. This leads her to run off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a morally debaucherous lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents.
Critics have praised Stone’s performance, as well as the visual style of the film. Yorgos Lanthimos’ films aren’t for everyone, but if you enjoyed The Favourite then you might reap much enjoyment from Poor Things.
4. Ferrari | November 22nd, 2023
The movie is centred around Enzo Ferrari (Adam Driver), at the point of his life when he’s in crisis. The company he owns with his wife Laura (Penélope Cruz) is on the verge of bankruptcy, and their marriage is also in a tough place as they mourn the loss of their only son. Enzo decides to wager it all on one race, the treacherous 1,000-mile race across Italy, the iconic Mille Miglia.
Director Michael Mann previously directed the hugely successful Ford v Ferrari in 2019, so you know the racing scenes will definitely be a treat. Critics are a little divided on this one at the moment, who feel that the biopic bits don’t really mesh well with the exhilarating races. Guess you’ll have to decide for yourself when the movie comes out.
5. Anyone But You | December 22nd, 2023
Has any rom-com been marketed as much as Anyone But You? We get clips of stars Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney interviewing each other, talking dirty to each other ASMR style, and now, thanks to Nathan Fielder’s promotion of his show The Curse, everyone’s talking about this movie.
Bea and Ben had a fiery hot fling years ago, where despite the red-hot attraction, things took a cold turn and both of them moved forward and never looked back. Until now. They both find themselves at a destination wedding in Australia, and decide to pretend date in order to achieve their own individual agendas. But we all know what happens when characters in a rom-com pretend date, things start getting a little too real.
